IMPORTANT NOTICE: From Superintendent Michael Hanlon
The following message was sent to all Painesville City School parents and guardians in response to the events at Chardon High School this morning.
"This is an important Alert Now message from the Superintendent of Painesville City Schools, Dr. Michael Hanlon. "
"As you may be aware, there was a school shooting at Chardon High School earlier today. In response to that situation, we have reviewed and increased security procedures at all schools in our district and are working closely with the Painesville Police Department to ensure the safety of our students and staff.
While none of our buildings are currently on lock down status and all schools are operating on a normal schedule, we have instituted additional safety measures including:
School visitor screening procedures have been reviewed with key personnel with all visitors being carefully screened before gaining entrance to the school.
We have directed all visitors to the high school to one entrance during the school day.
Personnel are continually checking all exit doors at every school to ensure security.
As a precautionary measure, all elementary schools will not have outdoor recess today.
Safety and security of our students is our highest priority. We will continue to monitor the developments at Chardon High School and take appropriate steps in order to provide a safe and secure environment in our schools."
